Designing Courses within a Culturally Responsive Teaching Framework
May 25, 2023, 12:00-1:30 pm. Lunch will be served.
This workshop is for instructors and graduate students interested in designing their courses within a culturally responsive teaching framework. Research on CRT has shown to be effective in increasing students’ engagement in class, and by valuing their backgrounds and experiences, and their sense of belonging in higher education. This workshop will briefly introduce some of the core principles of culturally responsive teaching from scholars like Geneva Gay and Gloria Ladson-Billings. Participants will observe different examples of how CRT is implemented in various higher education courses, and have the opportunity to update their own course materials using this framework.
Facilitated by Dr. Christian Reyes.
