How do I apply for an STE?

The application period for the 2020-2021 AY Seminars in Teaching Excellence has been postponed as EPIC restructures its major initiatives.

I want to apply for multiple STEs. How can I do that?

If you are interested in applying for multiple STEs, we would kindly ask you to submit a separate application for each STE. Graduate students may use the same recommendation letter for all applications.

I have already participated in an STE. Can I apply again?

Previous participants are welcome to apply. However, priority for attending an STE will be given to candidates who have not yet participated in an STE. We want to make sure that we can reach as many faculty members and graduate students as possible throughout the Humanities Division and Department of History to support EPIC’s long-term goals.

I got accepted to an STE but can’t come to all of the meetings. What should I do?

Please note that as a Mellon-EPIC Fellow, you are required to attend any and all seminar meetings. The seminars require a maximum of 30 hours of in face-to-face meetings and 20 hours of at-home preparation (i.e., reading, development of project materials). Fellows are expected to attend all meetings, notify the co-leads in the event of professional/personal conflicts of interest, and contribute to the final project. I’m a graduate student and I’m concerned whether the Mellon-EPIC Fellowship will affect my financial aid?

Please note that the Mellon-EPIC Fellowship research grant does affect your overall merit-based funding eligible through UCLA Financial Aid; graduate students need to self-report the award to UCLA Financial Aid if they intend to take student loans. In addition, this stipend will count towards the maximum merit based funding as set forth by the UCLA Graduate Division. More information can be found here:
